The SAKAI Association selected a very small squad of only 9 athletes to participate in the Central England Open Karate Championship at the weekend. This was a very well attended event with over 1300 participants.
Our squad put in a solid performance battling through the rounds, but on this occasion only 2 of our athletes secured podium spots.
Miss Eve Watt was the first of our athletes to achieve a podium place, securing BRONZE in the female 14-15yrs of age +54Kgs category.
However, the performance of the day must go to Sophie Hocking in the female 12-13yrs of age +45Kgs category. Sophie was on fire at the weekend, using her helicopter legs to great effect.
Sophie secured SILVER in a hotly contested category
- 9-1 / 1st Round
- 9-5 / 2nd Round
- 9-0 / Quarter Finals
- 3-0 / Semi Finals
- 0-1 / Final
It was a tough day at the office, but great tatami time for Sophie and she is now starting to perform to her potential.
We can’t wait till the next time we see our athletes step back onto the tatami and do what they love to do and challenge themselves to perform to their potential yet again!
