Progression Pathway Update @ SKE
We’re thrilled to roll out our brand new Progression Pathway – Personal Development System across the dojo!
This is a game-changer for all our students, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
🚨 What’s new?
- Reduced Exams: We’re moving from 8 exams per year to just 2, giving students more time to develop their skills. But with that extra time, we’re raising the bar for progress!
- Attendance is Key: Remember to book classes via the SKE app and scan in using your QR code when you arrive. If you need help, our team is here to assist!
- Extra Support: We’ve got downloadable PDFs, video tutorials, camps, workshops, and even personal 1-on-1 sessions to help you succeed!
Biannual Skyline Report: Twice a year, we’ll meet with you to provide a snapshot of your progress and offer recommendations to help you hit your goals. Your success is our priority
Examination Details
The examination is physically and mentally challenging, and the candidate must perform all 3 K’s to the prescribed standard during the examination to increase their rank.
The 3 K’s are:
- Kihon (Fundamentals)
- Kata (Patterns of karate moves)
- Kumite (Sparring)
Assessment Criteria
On the day of the examination, coaches will request that the candidate perform all of the requirements laid down in the curriculum applicable for their specific level.
Our coaches are seasoned professionals who are trained to assess candidates using the SPARE acronym.
For each technique, the assessors ask the following questions:
- Stance: Is the student forming correct stances, maintaining balance, posture, and the ability to move efficiently?
- Preparation: Is the student lifting the leg correctly on kicks, avoiding “telegraphing” before punches, or using unnecessary foot movements before delivering techniques?
- Accuracy: Is the student able to display an understanding of where the technique is being delivered or the position of a block?
- Recovery: Is the student finishing with balance after the delivery of a technique or movement and able to move again quickly if required?
- Effort: Is the student showing the expected level of commitment and determination with the level of power appropriate to their experience and age?
Post-Examination
Upon completion of the exam, SKE will inform the candidate of the result of their recent assessment, marking an important milestone in their karate journey.
The SKE App will be updated with both a STAR Rating and suggestions to further enhance their progress. If you don’t pass, we’ll give you feedback to help you keep improving.
Karate is a journey, and we’re with you every step of the way!
