Good Season Opener @ Scottish Karate Grand Prix!
SPORT KARATE EAST got off to a good start at this year’s season opener taking two GOLD, a SILVER and three BRONZE’s at the SCOTTISH KARATE GRAND PRIX at the weekend. SKE had athletes on the podium from 6 years of age to 16 years of age.
First up on the podium was Jacob McGlone AKA – Turbo, taking GOLD. Not to be outdone was our youngest athlete Nikola Blaszczak securing a SILVER in the Girls 5-6yr category. These two early successes fired up the squad and in rapid succession SKE’s Little Pocket Rocket, Daisy Hutchison took GOLD in the girls 7-9yr category, followed by two BRONZE medals from Filip Zmudzinska in the boys 7-9yr category, which had 64 athletes in the draw, and Dawid Blaszczak in the boys 10-11yrs category. The final BRONZE medallist of the day was Allan Jones in the 16-18yr category.
SKE coach “Richard Mallinson” stated that the squad is making good consistent progress and the depth of talent we have within these Young Dundee Athletes is impressive.
The standout performance of the day at the Scottish Karate Grand Prix has to go to Xander Dunn from SKE, even though Xander did not make it on to the podium on this occasion, his performance epitomises the MIND SET that we are encouraging our athletes to embrace that they have to “BELIEVE TO ACHIEVE”.
Xander was losing a match with only ONE SECOND left on the clock and required a three-point head kick to proceed into the next round. Needless to say, that is exactly what this 10-year-old athlete did. He believed in himself and achieved his objective. The MIND SET takes our athletes further than just their physical attributes for sure!
