SKE's Instructor Training Programme

Inside the Instructor Training Programme at Sport Karate East

At SPORT KARATE EAST in Dundee, we believe martial arts is about more than technique. It’s about transformation, in mindset, leadership, and life. And there’s no better example of that than our Instructor Training Programme (ITP).

What Is the ITP?

The ITP is a 24-month coaching and leadership pathway designed for students aged 14 and up who are ready to grow beyond the role of student, and begin leading, mentoring, and inspiring others.

This isn’t a short course or a coaching badge. It’s a complete development journey built on 12 powerful modules, combining theory, practice, personal reflection, and real-world teaching experience.

Participants learn how to:

  • Plan and deliver engaging karate classes

  • Communicate clearly and confidently with students and parents

  • Apply safeguarding and professional standards

  • Lead with empathy, presence, and responsibility

Why This Programme Matters

We created the ITP to give young people more than an opportunity; we give them a pathway.

Through weekly support classes, monthly development sessions, and one-to-one mentoring, students gradually build their coaching confidence in a structured and supportive environment.

And as they grow, they start to see a shift. Not just in the dojo, but in how they carry themselves at school, at home, and in life.

Parents consistently tell us about improvements in:

  • Focus and maturity

  • Organisation and time management

  • Communication and self-belief

  • Emotional resilience and purpose

“Instructor Training gave our son not just the ability to teach karate, but the confidence to speak to a room, lead by example, and stay organised and driven.” – SKE Parent

What Makes the ITP Unique?

Mentorship from our senior coaching team
Real-life class experience from the beginning
Progress tracked across 12 modules
Certification recognised by Karate Scotland and sportscotland

But perhaps most importantly, the ITP aligns with our core belief at SKE,
Leadership is not about status, it’s about service.

Who Is It For?

This programme is open to students who:

  • Are aged 14 or older

  • Are committed to their own karate development

  • Are ready to support others and take responsibility

  • Have been invited or accepted through application

The Outcome

Graduates of the Instructor Training Programme become:

  • Certified Junior Coaches (under 18), or

  • Certified Coaches (18+)

Some go on to join the SKE coaching team. Others take their new skills into school, further education, or even open their own dojo one day. Whatever path they choose, they leave with leadership experience that lasts a lifetime.
